A Simple Idea
It all started on January 13th when I was taking my regular walk to the Animation School in Fellingsbro, Sweden. Just a simple idea about a watchmaker about to fall apart (as a watch itself). Not at all an idea that would last a couple of minutes, but certainly something to build from. And so I started.
I was about six months before the actual beginning of the second year, but totally devoted to my little idea I started to design the watchmaker (who's still a man without a name).
The first design of the character was pretty close to what he ended up looking, but the road was pretty bumpy.
This is the first drawing of the watchmaker that I could find in my not so sorted archives. It's dated January 19th. The basic proportionsis still the same but only a week later I drew this sketch, calling it 'The New Look'.
I honestly don't like this design now, 'cause he looks quite mean and not at all as I intended.
I don't remember how long it took, but I altered him again and arrived at this.
I stayed with this design for a couple of months and even made a lip-sync assignment starring him in his watchmaker shop, picking up cogs and examin them. It was a great way to try out the design and I actually found it hard to work with so I went through the designs again before next assignment.
Oh, by the way. I hereby declare this Production Diary officially opended!
